Upstairs, Downstairs

One of the most common questions we get asked is, "What is the difference between upstairs and downstairs?"

The main difference is the downstairs Wine Bar is smaller with lower ceilings and has more of a 'bistro' feel. You walk down some steps into the bar area with stone flags and will notice the menu blackboards that adorn the walls. A popular spot for lunch due to the inexpensive set menu and the exceptional service you will receive from Rosie and Sophie and all the team. On an evening you will usually find front of house and co-owner David Straker behind the bar who has been a constant for over 27 years. Due to the popularity of the Wine Bar, it can get busy and loud, especially at weekends. This often creates vibrant buzzy atmosphere which many people love but for few can be overwhelming.

Upstairs is closed at lunchtime except for private parties. The menu is the same as downstairs, although you may find some additional specials on the board during evening service. The dining rooms have high ceilings and are more spacious than downstairs with a smaller bar area. Often you will find upstairs a little more relaxed and slightly slower pace than downstairs. Larger parties are more easily catered for and there is a private room with audio visual facilities.

The upstairs private dining room is ideal for special occasions and business entertaining, seating up to 24 people. Upstairs is available for private functions of up to 60 people and for business lunches and events during the day.
