Staff Focus - Sophie Pride

Sophie Pride
Recent winner of the Harrogate Hospitality and Tourism Awards 2017 and “The face of lunchtime at W&V.”

How long have you worked here?
Eighteen years.

What did you do before you joined W&V?
Restaurant Supervisor at the Clocktower at Rudding Park.
Head waitress at the Majestic Hotel for five years. My role included running small functions and wedding receptions.

What do you love about your job?
The people, especially the regulars who have been coming here for years.

What's your favourite item on the menu/wine list?
My favourite wine is our house rosé, the Gerard Bertrand Gris Blanc.
I love the W&V homemade black pudding, it’s very moreish, but my favourite dish at the moment is the cod fillet with pancetta, peas, cherry tomatoes, parmentier potatoes and crab bisque.

Any interesting stories to tell us about an unusual shift?
Yes, but I couldn’t possibly divulge that information! It’s good fun when we get well known faces like cricketer Johnny Bairstow coming in and more recently Harry Redknapp.

What do you do in your spare time?
I’m usually walking my dog, Barnaby (he even has his own Instagram account @barnaby.rudge).
I enjoy weekends away with my other half and socialising with friends.
